Itinerary

Day 1AUCKLAND

Auckland is a strongly connected urban environment where everyone lives within half an hour of beautiful beaches, hiking trails and a dozen enchanted holiday islands, one of which is Waiheke Island, only a short ferry ride away. A sunny climate, background rhythms of Polynesian culture and a passion for outstanding food, wine and shopping, Auckland completes provides a multi cultural vibrancy. Auckland is New Zealand’s largest city and has the biggest airport. Two domestic terminals allow frequent and accessible flights throughout the country. Auckland is a sophisticated waterfront city offering fabulous aquatic activities and sublime dining experiences.

Day 2RUSSELL

Russell is just a q quick ferry ride across the water from Paihia and is a charming, elegant township. This serene location was once the shore leave destination for sailors, whalers and traders during the 19th century. Today Russell is still a favoured spot for boaties seeking a safe anchorage and calm weather. Historic buildings include the Catholic Mission “Pompallier” and the Christ Church, which still retains the bullet holes from the Maori Wars. Discover Russell’s exciting past by visiting the museum, cafés, restaurants and craft galleries, while appreciating its colonial architecture. You can also walk to the famous flagpole (looking over to Paihia on the beach, turn right (walk along the beach at low tide), and uphill and capture beautiful views over the bay.

Day 3KERIKERI

Orchards line the road leading into Kerikeri with roadside stalls offer visitors the chance to buy seasonal fruit. Travellers should look for signs pointing the way to artists’ studios – resident potters and painters of this area have provided it’s creative edge. The Kerikeri township is full of galleries, cafés and gourmet food shops and provides a contemporary edge to an area rich in history. Included in your travel plans should be a visit to New Zealand’s oldest house (Kemp House built in 1821) and the Stone Store (1832). At the Kerikeri basin, you can see the remains of the terraced pa site, Kororipo. Other local attractions include a replica pre-European Maori village and the walk to Rainbow Falls.

Day 4HAWKES BAY

The lovely city of Napier is only 20 mins from Hastings and is both the bustling centre of Hawke’s Bay and the Art Deco capital of New Zealand. Blessed with sunny, Mediterranean-style weather, Hawke’s Bay is one of New Zealand’s warmest, driest regions and is New Zealand’s leading producer of red wines. It is a stunnng city with the greatest concentration of Art Deco architecture found anywhere in the country. Napier is also host to the country’s most elaborate celebrations of Matariki – the Maori New Year.

Day 5CAPE KIDNAPPERS

Cape Kidnappers is located at the southern end of Hawke Bay, on the east coast of the North Island and is a short drive away from the cities of Napier and Hastings. The name “Kidnappers” refers to an incident during Cook’s first voyage when an attempt was made to trade with the occupants of an armed canoe. At Cape Kidnappers, travellers can get within a few feet of the world’s largest, most accessible mainland gannet colony which is at the top of the Cape’s sheer and rugged cliffs.

Day 6METHVEN

Methven is at the heart of a huge range of activities and experiences including subalpine and scenic walkways, six challenging country golf courses, including an international golf resorts. For a completely different point of view, travellers can enjoy hot air ballooning over the Canterbury Plains, scenic helicopter flights over the spectacular Canterbury High Country and the pure adrenaline rush of a tandem skydive.
