Itinerary

Day 1Arrival to Paro and head to Thimphu

Upon arrival, meet your local guide to transfer to the hotel in Thimphu for check-in and lunch. Enroute, you will have the opportunity to stop and view the Tamchogg Lakhang Temple. After lunch, you will visit the National Memorial Chorten.

Afterwards, drive onwards to Buddha Dordenma – a gigantic Shakyamuni Buddha statue. At a height of 51.5 metres, it is one of the tallest Buddha statues in the world. Then, drive to visit the Takin Preserve in Motithang. Takin is the National animal of Bhutan and looks like a cross breed between a cow and a goat.

This evening, you will be dressed in Bhutan’s traditional clothing to watch a cultural program at the hotel’s courtyard. This will be followed by dinner at the hotel’s speciality Bhutanese restaurant.

Day 2Thimphu

Begin the day with a drive to take a short hike to Cheri Goenpa monastery. On arrival, you will have a special meditation session to drop into the space and experience. After that, return back down to the base and the guide will drive a short distance to a secluded spot by the beautiful Thimphu chu (river). You will have a lovely picnic lunch laid out here for you to enjoy.

After lunch, drive to visit the Tashichho Dzong, known as the “Fortress of the Glorious Religion”, followed by a visit to the Jungshi paper making factory. Visitors can observe the entire process of producing handmade paper using ancient traditional methods that have been practised for generations. You can even try your hand at this ancient craft and make some paper of your very own as a souvenir. You will also have the opportunity to visit the vibrant weekly market, where vendors from throughout the region sell their harvests.

This evening, you will have a yoga session in the Taj’s courtyard to enliven the body, and then relax to unwind, ground, and soften into the journey.

Day 3 Thimphu/Phobjikha

Early this morning, after checking out, go on a drive to Dochu la pass. Upon arrival, you will have a gentle flow yoga class and will include some full body prostrations into the practice.

After breakfast, visit the 108 stupas built on this 3,150-metre-high pass in honor of the fallen Bhutanese soldiers. Then, you will be chauffeured towards Gangtey (approx. 4hrs drive). Enroute, stop at the Drubcchu café for lunch. Upon reaching Gangtey, check in to the hotel. Soak in the beautiful views of the Gangtey valley and take a short rest. In the late afternoon, visit the Gangtey Goemba (monastery).

In the evening, head towards the Shedra, which is a monastic school. Attend the meditation session with the monks, which will be followed by a prayer service. It is an enchanting experience where about 300 monks chant their prayers every evening.

Day 4Phobjikha

Today, go on a half day Longtey Hike. It is a 30 minutes drive from Phobjikha to the starting point in Longteng village. Hike uphill until you reach the pass with impressive views of the Gangtey Goemba, the Shedra, and the rest of the valley. Here, you will stop at the meditation session of Anapana Sati. Post meditation, you will walk down to the Gangtey 360 point where you will have a beautiful picnic lunch set-up for you. Then, continue on the path as it slopes down to the Shedra or all the way down to the lodge. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure. You can make use of the spa and enjoy a massage or try your hand at some traditional archery or darts (khuru).

In the evening, attend a yin yoga session at the end of the archery field overlooking the gorgeous Phobjikha valley.

Overnight: Gangtey Lodge

Day 5Phobjikha/Punakha

Early this morning, you will have a yoga session on the lodge’s beautiful patio. After breakfast, you will be chauffeured to Punakha. Enroute, hike about 30 minutes to Chimi Lhakhang (temple), which is on a small hilltop. If interested, you can also watch the Thangkha painters here in action. Afterwards, drive to the hotel for check-in and lunch.

In the afternoon, you will visit the Sangchhen Dorji Lhendrup Lhakhang Nunnery. After touring the temple, you will have a mindfulness meditation session in the courtyard there.

Day 6Punakha

Early in the morning, you will hike to Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal Chorten. Upon arrival, you will have a yoga session on the temple’s courtyard. After yoga, enjoy a picnic breakfast followed by a visit to the temple and lighting of butter lamps. Hike back down and return to the lodge. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure. In the late afternoon, visit the beautiful Punakha Dzong.

Day 7Punakha/Paro

This morning, attend a yoga session at the lodge’s archery ground. After breakfast, you will be driven to Paro to check-in and have lunch. After lunch, visit the Ta Dzong or the National Museum. Afterwards, visit a local farm house, a traditional village house, to have a glimpse into the lifestyle of a farmer. In the evening, attend a yoga session in the yoga studio.

Day 8Paro/Bumdra Trek

Today, leave on a two-day trek, popularly known as the Bumdra trek. It is a Moderate trek, which means it will be hard at certain places and requires good fitness levels. Maximum altitude that you will reach is about 3,900-4000 metres.

Overnight: Bumdra Camp

Day 9Paro

Early in the morning, you will join a mindfulness meditation session a the campsite. After a hearty breakfast, continue the hike. After completing the hike, a car will fetch you to the hotel for rest and spending the day at leisure. You can enjoy the facilities in the spa, book a massage, use the pool, or relax in the stream room. In the evening, attend a yoga session in the yoga studio.

Day 10Departure

Today, spend the day at leisure before your transfer to Paro airport.
