Day 3 Husky Adventure, Transfer to Abisko, Aurora Sky Station

Start your day with a husky adventure. Transfer to the kennel on the road to Nikkaluokta through a river valley where moose congregate in winter. Once you arrive at the kennels get acquainted with the dogs and receive detailed instructions about how to drive them. Head out into the frozen river valley where you will have opportunities to take turns in driving the team whilst making stops to take photos. You will be out for around 2 hours before heading back to base for a warming lunch in the traditional ‘Kota’ adjacent to the family home.

After the Husky Adventure, you will be picked up for the 1hr transfer to Abisko Mountain Lodge and proceed to check in.

At around 1500hrs, you will be transferred to the Aurora Sky Station in Abisko. It is widely regarded as the best place in the world to see the Northern Lights which is located approx. 100km north of Kiruna. Take a chairlift up to Mount Nuolja to the Observatory which offers you a panoramic view while you enjoy an excellent 4-course exclusive dinner.
During the winter nights when it is dark, depending on the correct weather conditions, it is possible to see the Northern Lights dancing in the sky around you from this fantastic vantage point. The Aurora Sky Station has an exhibition about the Aurora Borealis, created by IRF, the Institute of Space Physics in Kiruna. Here, you will learn more about the phenomenon before going out on the viewing deck to begin your night sky gazing.

Day 4Norwegian Fjords/Abisko National Park, Lappish Dinner and Lights Over Lapland Northern Lights Workshop

Take the train from the station near the lodge and follow the famous iron ore railroad with beautiful mountain vistas, frozen waterfalls and stunning Arctic valleys. Once you cross into Norway, enjoy the magnificent views and take photos before continuing up and over Björnfjell – a stunning Norwegian mountain dotted with small grass-roofed cottages.
Once in Narvik, you will have around 3 hours to explore the town before returning. You will have the opportunity to ascend to the observation deck of the Scandic Hotel and enjoy coffee or lunch (not included), do some souvenir shopping, or visit the newly built Peace Museum. This state of the art facility offers a glimpse of what life looked like in these majestic Fjords during the Second World War Nazi occupation.

Option 2: Explore Abisko National Park
Abisko National Park is sandwiched between picturesque mountains and Lake Tornetrask one of Sweden’s largest and which freezes during winter. In the morning after breakfast at the lodge, visit the team at Abisko Mountain Lodge for information on trails you can explore and provide a transfer. Visit Abisko canyon with its frozen waterfall and possibly watch ice climbers ascending the crevices.

After your day adventures, enjoy a fantastic dinner at the mountain lodge as you partake in their traditional Lappish menu which includes Reindeer, Arctic Char and Cloudberries – 3 of the unique ingredients to the area.

After dinner, join the team for their exclusive Northern Lights Photo Tour (about 10 guests). Walk right out the Lodge front door and a snowmobile transfer will take you to an exclusive location with commanding views over the mountains and the lake, both of which provide wonderful backdrops for Aurora photos. You will have 2 guides, one to instruct you and the other to look after you and make drinks etc. They have a yurt set up with a fire so you can warm up if necessary. You will be supplied with cameras preset for Aurora photography but you must bring your own SD card.
