Join us for the annual Golden Eagle Festival in beautiful Bayan-Olgii province of Mongolia. Every year, many brave Kazakhs participate with their specially trained Golden Eagles in various competitions to prize the best among them. This fantastic festival celebrating the Kazakhs’ honored Golden Eagle practice is also a celebration of Kazakh traditional heritage. In order to maintain the event as a festival for the Kazakhs themselves, attendance is limited. The highlight of this fantastic trip is interacting with the Kazakhs and other ethnic groups and living with them for a couple of days to take part in the eagle training and get to know about the unique Kazakh culture.

Arrive in Ulaanbaatar, meet at the airport after custom formalities and transfer to the hotel.
The city tour of Ulaanbaatar takes you through some of the principal sights of this unique city. You visit the Gandan Monastery, housing a 26 meter high gilded statue of the Buddha. Your tour also takes you to the Genghis Khan monument on the Sukhbaatar square and the Museum of National History, which has a number of fascinating displays of traditional Mongolian clothing and weaponry, as well as exhibits charting the course of Genghis Khan’s empire-building
Early in the morning or in the afternoon, we take the flight to Olgii, the center of Bayan-Olgii province in the far west. Arrive and transfer to a Kazakh eagle hunter’s family and get orientation with their life and the area.

Today we take part in the eagle training and preparation for the wonderful Eagle Festival of the next 2 days. This is actually a big day for both the masters and the eagles. Witness and photograph the spectacular moments of the eagle training and prey catching etc. Enjoy the best of Kazakh cuisine. In the afternoon, drive back to Olgii and transfer to the local hotel.

The first day of the festival: Eagle hunters compete with their beautiful traditional clothes, horse, horse decorations, their eagles and the eagle decorations while parading from the Olgii central square to the competition arena. Later in the afternoon the eagles compete for their speed, agility and hunting skills

Witness the 2nd day of this unique festival. Today’s task for the eagles is catching the prey within the shortest time and they’re given scores. Kazakh traditional games like Kokbar etc are played among the spectators. The best eagles with their best trainers are awarded in the evening.

After breakfast we fly back to Ulaanbaatar for ~3 hours and arrive in Ulaanbaatar, drive to Hustai National Park, one of the most popular national parks of Mongolia through the rolling steppes. Arrive in Hustai view the wonderful Takhi wild horses and other wildlife.

In the morning, we drive back to Ulaanbaatar and then transfer to hotel. We visit the Bogd Khaan’s Palace Museum – the residence of the last king of Mongolia and the Buddha Park. Farewell dinner at Mongolian BBQ restaurant.
